Tending to Your Inner Fire - Step 2
"Setting yourself on fire is about finding your passion back. It is finding out what it is you want to live for... What is your fire? Passion? Sense of purpose? Clients see a therapist when they are out of touch with the very things that are good and true and beautiful in the world and in themselves."

Known by various names since antiquity, in its simplest terms Inner Fire, can be understand as an individual's passion and zest for life and living. We are born and grown into a world set on stifling our fire, especially right here in Trinbagonian society, where publicly addressing our trials are often seen as taboo or laughed at. We are programmed to seek help only when things are at its worst. Often times never reaching out to the those who are professionally qualified to offer the right methods, whereby our true fire can be rekindled. This I suppose is not just an issue here in our twin sister islands, but by extension the global community. A friend, family member, teacher, religious or spiritual leader can offer great solace in times of emotional distress, however from my own personal experience an individual who is professionally qualified, has the know how and power to offer methods for transformation, beyond a few fleeting moments of comfort that comes from feeling heard and empathised with. The stigma attached to seeking professional therapeutic help, needs to be addressed and sitting before a qualified therapist or wholistic practitioner needs to be normalized. It saves months, sometimes years of unnecessary inner turmoil and confusion.
Our Inner Fire is affected in a positive as well as negative way from our creation within the womb, when we are receptive to the sensations of the outer world, as well as our mother's mental and emotional processes. This dance continues as we grow and throughout every experience we encounter in life. Thus Tending to your Inner Fire is the 2nd Stage of my Self Care Ritual concept. Each time we do intense self enquiry and shadow work, in the form of Clearing the Path, it is essential to tend to our Inner Fire. When our inner fire is dimmed, we become sluggish, mentally drained, emotionally unavailable, unclear, confused about self and life, and in extreme instances, we experience psychological as well as bodily illness. Inner Fire and the level at which it flows throughout our bodies, manifests in the ways we perceive as well as lead our lives in every way. When our Inner Fire is stiffled, our sex drives are usually the first to fall short, because our sex drive is our raw creative energy, which translates as our Inner Fire. Thus a healthy sex drive and understanding of one's sexuality (pleasures & inhibitions) is a necessary bit often overlooked way to work with our Inner Fire.
Tending to Your Inner Fire requires a dedicated and somewhat dedicated effort. Self Care Rituals are simple to complex, progression methods and techniques that can be done alone, in groups, as well as with the aid of qualified professionals. From my personal journey, all of these settings are of utmost important when truly threading the path of tending to self! I wish to offer some examples of how you can Tend to Your Inner Fire:
~~~ CONSCIOUS BREATH ~~~
Proper breathing allows a better flow of oxygen into our body. Think of conscious breathing, as breath making love to your organs, cells, caressing every atom of our being in the places, no lover or beloved ever could! A few moments each day, or in times of extreme stress can offer a much needed reset. Even turn on some soothing music. Close your eyes, and do a few reps of deep, slow, belly breathing.
A pediatrician friend initiated in meditative breath-work since the age of 7, once told me "watch babies breathe, follow their rhythm". Babies usually hold less blockages ~trauma~ within their bodies, so the essence of life that flows through them has not yet been forgotten".
~~~ ENGAGING THE SENSES ~~~
Sight - Sitting in a dark room. Light a candle.
Gaze softly at the flame,closing the eyes for a few moments, in place of blinking. Seeing the flame as your eyes are clasped.
When venturing to new or old places, slow down & Look.
Engage sight & breath while pausing to witness whatever your gaze falls upon. This is a gentle way to be present, through sight.
Smell - Slow down to smell the food you eat, the things you drink. Someone you love. The various smells your own body gives off.
Just Slow down & Smell with a Deep In-Breath.
Taste - Chew your food or snack without rush. Allowing your tongue to play. Notice how your teeth crushes the food, engage with the sensation of each chewing motion as it makes love to your taste buds. When drinking your water, tea, juice, beer, wine or smoothie, feel the fluid playing with your tongue & mouth, caressing your throat as you swallow. Breathe. Pause. Enjoy the taste & process of nourishing your body.
Touch - Slowly & gently, glide your fingers across bed sheets, your clothing, hair or your body when soaping or applying body lotion.
Walk barefeeted on the grass. Run your palms through dirt or sand.
Play with the sensations of cool or warm water on the body.
Psychic Sensitivity - When alone & in a quiet space. Close your eyes. Breathe. Slowly, Deeply. Pay attention to Your Mind. Dropping into Your Thoughts, allow them to flash by without judgement. Breathe. Now Sink into Your Heart Space. Witness the Heart's Drum. Listen to its Rhythm. Allow breath to enter, without judgement, witness what memories or sensations reveal its self. Now Sink Deeper. Enter Your Womb (women), Hara (men) - located 3" under the belly button & inward 3" from that point. Breathe filling your tummy. Stay present with this centre - the seat of your Inner Fire. This is where your gut instinct or intuition lays present.
Learning to separate the messages present within the Mind-Heart-Womb/Hara is a Power Tool, that can help you walk consciously and wisely throughout every aspect of your life. It allows one to know whether they are driven by their Mind, Heart, or Gut in any situation.
~~~ MIRROR WORK ~~~
Using a hand mirror. Look at your genitals.
Witness how you feel while seeing such an intimate part of your body. What feelings, thoughts, concerns or confusions arise. Allow it, without judgement. Become comfortable with how this area looks.
Most people, especially women are not in touch with how their vulva looks. Part of Tending to Your Inner Fire, means bonding with the places where your passion resides. A simple step that fosters this, is gazing at your genitalia, giving yourself the opportunity to claim and become comfortable with how this sacred part of your body looks.
~~~ SELF LOVE PLEASURING ~~~
Conscious Self Pleasuring is possibly one of the most crucial aspects of creating Self Love. Self Pleasure doesn't necessarily imply sexual touch in every instance, but instead a sensuous engagement with self.
Designate some quiet time, preferably after showering. Light some incense. Play soft soothing or sensuous music in the background. Use a massage candle or some skin lotion heated from the palm of your hands, or coconut oil with/without an essential oil added. Now Gently, Softly and Loving apply the lotion or oil to every part of your body. Caressing each area as you give yourself permission to unwind, by slowing down & deepening your breaths. Envision a smile in the palm of your hand, penetrating your skin, and anchoring this loving smile made or pink, blue, purple or green light in every area you greet. Allow your intuition to guide the color(s) you choose in each session or body part, as you offer healing & love to yourself. You can also add positive affirmations as you tend to your body. Saying "I Love You" and "Thank You" to your feet for guiding your days & to your hands for all that they do. Anchor your dreams & aspirations into your skin, as you loving massage each area, "I Am Successful." "I Am Abundant." "I Receive & Give Love in Unison." "I Am Confident." "I Am Protected by the Divine." "I Set Healthy Boundaries." "I Am Loved". Whatever blessing you desire to imprint into your body as you adorn yourself with the lotion or oil, is as limitless as your desires & imagination.
